Project echo

Project ECHO represents the pinnacle of our dreams and vision, by symbolizing the holy grail of 3D experiences;
free-floating holograms that require no glasses, devices or other lenses between the human eye and the effect,
and where 3D objects can be viewed and interacted with from different angles.

Until now, this display has existed purely in the realm of science fiction, but with the development of Project ECHO,
we are on the path to materializing the big dream and bring it to market.

This project is supported by

Multi-view in Automotive

Realfiction’s directional ECHO display technology has multi-view as an embedded feature. In this example, the multi-view feature is used to enhance safety and entertainment in cars, by allowing the passengers to watch a movie, see tv or play videogames on the infotainment display, without the risk of distracting the driver, as the driver can simultaneously watch purely driving relevant information in the display such as navigation directions.

Multi-view with ECHO

Another example of the use of multi-view is enabling each spectator in a power point presentation to watch it in their native language. And as always with the ECHO technology, there is NO resolution loss. Everybody will see the full screen resolution.

Holographic televisions will make complex learning fun

What if your child could experience the International Space Station (ISS) up close and see how the Crew Dragon maneuvers and dock, transporting a new crew to the station? Would experiences like that increase the understanding of space exploration at a young age? We certainly think so.

A short vision of how holographic televisions can enhance and bring life to any explanation, storytelling or education in the near future.

Holographic Television

Imagine being able to take your child on a jungle expedition to see the incredible hummingbird, and show how it is able to stand still in the air by moving its wings super fast. If you could go on such an expedition in the morning, and then choose the next destination in the afternoon, where would you go next?

A short vision of how holographic televisions can enhance and bring life to any explanation, storytelling or education in the near future.

Why create the world's first holographic television

Why do we need holographic tv's? How can they be used? Who can benefit from such a technology? These are some of questions that the team behind Project ECHO is trying to answer in this video.

Project ECHO Holographic Television

This film depicts a vision of how a future holographic television could be used for home entertainment purposes.

A degree of creative freedom has been used to visually communicate the effect of a 3D holographic display – in a 2D video.

ECHO is a scalable display technology that will make it possible and cost-effective to present high-quality 3D holographic images, without the use of glasses or other lenses. Often referred to as “the holy grail of 3D”, ECHO will utilize a patent pending directional pixel technology as the core principle for achieving the 3D holographic effect. When fully developed, ECHO will be able to offer groups of people full individual 3D look-around capability.

Conventional TV screens use electricity to power millions of small light-emitting pixels. As each pixel continuously shines its light in all directions, only a tiny fraction of the light targets the viewers’ eyes, essentially leaving the additional light and electricity wasted. With increasing market demand for owning larger and larger television- and gaming screens, little effort is being made from manufacturers to address this increased growth in power consumption, despite society’s need to cut global carbon emissions.

The patent pending ECHO technology is a light field display that works by selectively directing the light from its pixels directly to the eyes of the viewers. By utilizing eye-tracking techniques, ECHO’s directional pixel technology will even be able to emit differentiated light to multiple viewers at the same time, essentially making it possible for each viewer to see their own unique content.

Additionally, the ECHO technology presents unique power reduction capabilities by only emitting the precise amount of light needed to target the eyes of the viewers.

Being positioned in the so-called field of mixed reality, Realfiction is dedicated to exploring and inventing technology that breaks with the current approach of head-mounted wearables, as we believe this is just the first, primitive stage.

We want to create social mixed reality that takes back the public space and enables epic experiences that challenge the very perception of reality.
