Realfiction is developing a growing IP portfolio and know-how for Directional Pixel TechnologyTM (DPT), the company’s groundbreaking display technology for holographic 3D as well as numerous 2D and 3D applications. DPT is available to license for display products using either LCD, OLED or LED/micro-LED, making it a versatile and future-proof upgrade path for many segments. These include home entertainment like cinema and gaming, professional industries such as product design and engineering, as well as the automotive industry.
Realfiction’s growing IP portfolio for its DPT platform covers all relevant hardware and software aspects of the technology. This ranges from the core display technology inventions, such as proprietary backplane designs and unique dynamic Spatial Light Modulators, to methods for facilitating cost-effective volume production of DPT displays, and conversion of existing 3D movies to a holographic 3D format.
In addition to DPT-related trademarks, the DPT IP portfolio consists of several patent families. These patent families cover for example each of the separate DPT versions based on LCD, OLED and LED displays, and the company’s Holowize 3D to holographic 3D conversion technology. Realfiction holds granted as well as pending patents in multiple geographic regions, and the company is continuously filing more patent applications in existing and new patent families as the DPT platform is further developed and refined.
In addition to patents based on inhouse R&D, Realfiction is also licensing patents from external partners when the company believes that this is relevant to build comprehensive license packages for its customers. The company also holds patents for its range of mixed reality display products aimed at retail, events, exhibitions and museums/arts related industries.
Realfiction’s core DPT development team draws on many years of experience from relevant fields such as the film and tv industry, development of mixed reality displays and interactive display solutions, and development of 2D and 3D display technologies.
Members of the team have previously worked at companies including IMAX, Foxconn, Innolux and Bang & Olufsen. As a Danish company, Realfiction is proud to carry on the Danish tradition of creating pioneering and high-quality concepts and products related to audio and video experiences. The DPT development has been co-funded by Innovation Fund Denmark.
The company conducts R&D activities in its facilities in Denmark and Taiwan, and collaborates with recognized industry partners such as the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the Fraunhofer Institute for Organic Electronics, Electron Beam and Plasma Technology FEP, Germany, and Interuniversity Microelectronics Centre, Belgium.
Realfiction offers complete DPT license integration packages for LCD, OLED and LED based display products. This makes it easy to integrate DPT technology in upgraded versions of existing ranges of display products, as well as in brand new display products in development.
The DPT license integration packages include everything needed to integrate DPT into a display product, on the hardware as well as the software side, as well to enable cost-effective volume production of the unique DPT-related parts, such as proprietary backplanes and dynamic Spatial Light Modulators.
